Kenyan Trends on February 10, 2017

Kenyans on social media were Friday morning discussing various topics making headlines including;

Peres Jepchirchir

The Kenyan athlete excited the country after breaking the women's Half Marathon world record and setting a new time of 1:05:06.

Jepchirchir was representing the country in the race held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and led a pack of other Kenyans who scooped the top four positions.

Those who took the other three positions in the Marathon included Olympic Champion Jemima Sumgong, Mary Keitany and Joycline Jepkosgei.

The win was received with jubilation with many congratulating her for flying the country's flag high.

Among those who were impressed with Jepchirchir was Deputy President William Ruto who stated: “Kudos to World champion Peres Jepchirchir for breaking women's record at a time of 65.06 on her way to winning Ras Al Khaimah Half Marathon.”

#UhuruInNyandarua

President Uhuru Kenyatta will head to Nyandarua County as he continues to urge more Kenyans to register in large numbers in the exercise that is set to end on February 14.

#KuraNiSwag

The topic was top of the trends as a majority of Kenyans continued to mobilise each other to be enlisted as voters in preparation for the August 8 General Election.

The youth, in particular, were sensitised on the importance of registering and voting on the polls day, as a way of ensuring the country gets the right leaders.

#MPsLastRetreat

Members of Parliament led by Speaker Justin Muturi on Friday morning held their last retreat, a forum which they used to look back at how they had conducted business in the last four years, as the end of their term draws closer.

The hashtag, however, speedily rose after Majority Leader in the National Assembly Aden Duale stated that the Jubilee government would use its tyranny of numbers and amend the Constitution to ensure Cabinet Secretaries are appointed by Parliament.

Lake Victoria/Nyanza

This was trending after fishermen netted close to 800 live bullets from the lake as they were on a fishing expedition. The bullets had been packed in a metal box near Litare Beach.

#LoveGrowsWithCoop

The hashtag scaled up the trends following a campaign launched by the Co-operative Bank of Kenya to give Kenyans some tips on how to enjoy Valentines Day in a special way.

Ex-Ghanaian President / Mahama in Kenya

Former Ghanaian President John Mahama was also a topic of discussion after reports emerged that he would be interacting with Kenya's private sector today at the Sarova Stanley Hotel, Nairobi.
