Kenyans Endorse Devolution

An Ipsos survey done between March 28 and April 7 this year shows that a considerable number of Kenyans are for devolution.

The survey indicates that more that more than 75 percent of the Kenyans interviewed view devolution as a positive way forward for the country, most seeing the form of governance as a chance for rural areas to develop.

Compared to a survey conducted in September last year, the new numbers show an overwhelming increase in support of devolution.

The survey however shows that while they support it, many Kenyans are yet to see the fruits of  devolution. It also indicates that leaders have to work towards gaining public trust after county leaders  were rated poorly in the polls.

The survey comes against the backdrop of an ongoing devolution conference in Kisumu. The conference is focusing on the development and challenges that have been facing devolution since  its implementation.
