1. #Forgotten Youths
This topic remained at the top of the trends for quite some time. It was initiated as an avenue to voice issues and examples of how the youth in Kenya had been marginalised, short changed and abused by the political class.
Online users revealed an array of broken promises, unfulfilled pledges and the gaps in meeting the needs of the youth in Kenya.
2. #TeamNairobi
The hashtag spiked today over the intrigues by members of the Jubilee Party's, Team Nairobi, after Nominated Member of Parliament Johnson Sakaja quit the gubernatorial race to vie for the senator’s seat.
It left questions unanswered as to what the remaining members-Margaret Wanjiru (former Starehe MP), Mike Sonko (Senator) and Dennis Waweru (Dagoretti South MP) had up their sleeves as they jostled for positions.
3. #APPassOut
The hashtag was trending all morning following the pass out of 3,985 fresh Administration Police (AP) officers at the training college in Embakasi, Nairobi.
The event was presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
4. KenyaWins
This hashtag appeared on the trends after Shadrack Kipkogey, and Emily Samoei won the Jerusalem Marathon in the men's and women’s divisions respectively.
Compatriots Mercy Too and Matthews Sang ensured the light shone on Kenya’s dominance as they made podium finishes in the race.
5. Felix Kaweesi
This trend captures the tragic loss of Uganda’s Police Spokesman, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Andrew Felix Kaweesi and two bodyguards who were shot dead early today in Kulambiro, Kampala.
Ugandan Police are investigating the incident.
6. Borris Johnson
The UK Foreign Minister was on trends after he made an address in Kenya.
Johnson was set to hold bilateral talks with his Kenyan counterpart, Amina Mohamed, on what the government calls critical matters of mutual interests.
