Kenyans on social media were on Friday engaging in various hot topics among them a meeting set to be led by Raila Odinga in the Rift Valley over the weekend.

Nasa in Rift Valley

Opposition leaders, who recently announced an intention to form the National Super Alliance (NASA), are set to hold their joint rally in Bomet County on Saturday.

Led by Raila Odinga, they will address residents on several matters affecting the country, capitalising on recent rebellion witnessed from area leaders to join the more popular Jubilee Party.

Despite welcoming NASA to his County, Governor Isaac Ruto maintained that he would not join the Alliance.

Kiharu MP Kang'ata

Kiharu Member of Parliament Irungi Kang'ata was trolled by a section of the online fraternity after claiming that politicians from Rift Valley would be “swept away” in the August General Election if they failed to join the Jubilee Party.

Francis Atwoli

Central Organisation of Trade Union (COTU) Secretary General, Francis Atwoli was the topic of online discussion after he was mandated by the court to lead a new round of negotiations to resolve the ongoing doctors' strike.

Lady Justice Hellen Wasilwa once again suspended the sentencing of Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) officials over contempt of court.

Delivering the decision, Judge Wasilwa stated that she had allowed an application by COTU to allow for seven more days to try and end the strike which is on its 61st day.

She directed Atwoli to mediate the talks between the doctors and several agencies and reach an agreement by February 13, failure to which she will give her ruling on the contempt case.

Kenyatta National Hospital nurses protested in large numbers as they demanded payment of allowances agreed upon in the back to work agreement negotiated in December 2016.

Governor Ruto

Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto was also trending following a debate on one of the local stations where a section of Jubilee lawmakers claimed he was on a self-destruction path for failing to join the party.

Makueni MP Maanzo

Makueni Member of Parliament Dan Maanzo was also a subject of discussion following several remarks he made during the same television interview. Mr Maanzo expressed confidence that President Uhuru Kenyatta's advisor Kilemi Mwiria, who decamped from Jubilee to join Maendeleo Chap Chap Party, could surprise many by winning the Meru Governor's seat.

Maanzo was engaging his Jubilee counterparts during the deliberations on several matters regarding the current political situation in the current.
