Kenya's Trending Topics on Tuesday 31st January 2017

Kenyans on Social media on Tuesday started the day with a discussion on the events leading to the loss of Kenya's Amina Mohamed’s bid to become the AU Commission Chairperson.

Apart from the AU elections, here are the topics that trended on Twitter.

1. #NASAUnity

The hashtag has been appearing on the Kenyan trends after Opposition leaders came together under the National Super Alliance (NASA).

As part of their unity drive, CORD leaders led by Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, and Moses Wetangula have joined hands with Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi.

They have also formed a technical team that will work on identifying their presidential flagbearer.

2. #AskMeAnything

This conversation was started as a joint collaboration between the Youth Agenda and the Kenya Young Parliamentarians Association (KYPA) to discuss issues touching on the youth over a pizza hangout hosted at Pizaa Inn, Ngong Road.

KYPA brings together young MPS in the Senate and in the National Assembly and includes members such as Johnson Sakaja, Steve Kariuki, Ken Okoth, Naisula Lesuuda, Senator Martha Wangari among others

3. Amina Speaks

This trend became the topic of discussion after Foreign Affairs CS Amina Mohamed commented, for the first time since Kenya lost its bid to have her chair the AU Commission.

Ms Mohamed stated that the country was still interrogating its loss, especially on claims that some of its neighbors including Uganda and Burundi failed to vote for the Kenyan candidate.

4. #SGRPassengerTrains

This conversation was continuing in its second day. The topic got Kenyans excited after photos of the SGR passenger trains emerged.

Many were surprised by the simplicity of the passenger seats despite the fact that the government has spent billions on the mega projects to become an alternative to the coastal buses and flights that ply the Nairobi-Mombasa route.

Some of the users mischeviously posted photos of the interior of the trains juxtaposed against Rongai matatus.

5. #BaringoRevenueSystem

This hashtag appeared on the Kenyan trends as the Baringo County Government launched a digital technology platform that will allow automated revenue collection.

6. CS Mailu

The Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Cleopha Mailu appeared on the Kenyan trends as the Kenyan Medical Practioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) officials appeared in court for a contempt of case they are facing over their strike.

Kenyans made their pleas to CS Mailu to resolve the stand-off that has paralysed operations in public hospitals for more than two months.
