Kenya's Trends for January 16, 2017

Here are the topics trending in Kenya on January, 16 2017.

Uhuru Park

This trend emerged after President Uhuru Kenyatta arrived at the park to launch the third phase of Police vehicles acquired through the national government’s leasing programme.

High Court Judge George Odunga

High Court Judge George Odunga became a topic of discussion after CORD announced that they will institute a contempt case against National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale over his remarks on Mr Odunga.

On December 24, after Jubilee MPs passed the controversial amendments to the Election Laws which CORD legislators had been opposing, Mr Duale told the Judge not to favour the Opposition when they appeared in court.

"And I want to tell one Judge Odunga, when we open on January 24, I will introduce a motion to discuss you. We will expose you. You cannot be a member of the Bench and play tribal politics," the Garissa Township MP warned.

#NASAKura

The hashtag was trending on the number one position on Monday morning after Opposition leader Raila Odinga announced that he would move to different key strongholds and mobilise eligible voters to register in large numbers.

The hashtag #NASAKura is linked to the Opposition's recent launch of the National Super Alliance (NASA) which unites various leaders in the opposition who have pledged to work together to trounce President Uhuru Kenyatta in the upcoming polls.

#Voterlisting

The hashtag became a topic of discussion after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) kicked off the second and last mass voter registration exercise across the country.

The registration, which began on Monday, January 16 is set to continue for the next one month.
