Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has been embroiled in a new tussle with President Uhuru Kenyatta's government over a Sh3.5 Billion property.
Kabogo claims to have acquired the land located in Westlands, Nairobi despite this being refuted by the Ministry of Lands and the County government.
According to the Governor, he legally acquired the 7.5-acre land in 2003 and registered it under his company, Caroget Investments Limited, having paid all legal fees.
“My company acquired title to the property pursuant to a transfer of lease from Nairobi City Council to whom the property was allotted. Caroget paid Nairobi City Council the fees and charges for the property,” he stated while testifying in an ongoing court battle.
However, Ministry officials disputed the claim after another company, Aster Holdings, emerged claiming ownership of the same land.
Appearing during the hearing of the case, one of the government officials divulged that the only records about the property are those belonging to Aster.
At the same time, County government valuer Isaac Nyoike stated that the land had been erroneously allocated to Kabogo's company before it was discovered that the land was private.
“City council erroneously made the opinion that it owned the land only to discover later that the land was private. Therefore there was need to cancel it,” Nyoike told the court.
