Kibera Youth Burn Down Waiguru-Led Projects in Protest

The government is counting heavy losses after youths in Kibera went on a rampage, Monday night destroying property and projects spearheaded by Devolution secretary Ann Waiguru.

The protests come as the latest of turns and twists surrounding a Sh.800 million scandal involving the CS.

They demanded investigation into the scandal which Waiguru had claimed to have brought to public attention.

The angry youths blocked major roads leading to the slums, causing a massive traffic snarl up.

They further torched clinics, toilets put up by the National Youth Service (NYS) and vandalized water tanks and pipes.

The police had a hard time controlling the incensed mob chanting anti government slogans.

The demonstrations came after Monday's protests by a different group of youths which had been defending Waiguru.

The day demonstrators had faulted CORD leader Raila Odinga for accusing Waiguru of being corrupt.

The night demonstrations by Kibera youth have attracted sharp criticism from different quarters, especially on social media with some Kenyans chastising the youth for being used to settle political scores at their own expense, as they burnt down projects created for their benefit.
