Kirinyaga Governorship Aspirant Anne Waiguru Storms Polling Centre in Gichugu, Kirinyaga

A dramatic scene ensued on Friday after former Devolution Cabinet Secretary (CS) Anne Waiguru stormed a polling centre in Gichugu, Kirinyaga during the ongoing Jubilee nominations.

Waiguru who is vying for the gubernatorial seat in the county alleged that there was a plot to rig her out of nominations which have been marred by various hitches.

Reports indicate that during the ensuing confrontation, ballot materials in the station were destroyed.

Flanked by dozens of her supporters, she claimed that ballot papers for the governorship position had been given out to her competitors at night thus the exercise would not be transparent.

The former CS decried shortage of the papers in the area declaring that she would not participate in the Jubilee primaries until the party supplies enough voting material.

The ongoing nominations were also disrupted in other regions due to logistical difficulties including the supply of inadequate material and delay in transporting the ballot papers and boxes.

The Party has since postponed the exercise in eleven counties stating that a different date for the voting would be announced after consultations and proper planning.

The counties where the primaries were cancelled include Nandi, Kericho, Baringo, Bomet, Trans Nzoia, Nakuru, Embu, Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Narok and Kajiado.
