Kitui MPs Endorse Senator Musila for Governorship

A section of Wiper Members of Parliament from Kitui County has rejected party leader Kalonzo Musyoka's decision to seemingly endorse Governor Julius Malombe ahead of the August 8 General Election.

Led by National Assembly Minority Leader Francis Nyenze, the MPs on their part announced that they would endorse area Senator David Musila for the Kitui Governor's seat.

The eight lawmakers stated that they would do whatever necessary to ensure Musila dethrones Malombe who is said to be preferred by Musyoka.

“We are going to work together to ensure Senator David Musila takes over as Kitui governor in August,” they declared.

The reports of Musyoka's alleged endorsement of the incumbent governor equally sparked a clash between Members of the Kitui County Assembly allied to Musila and those supporting Malombe.

The faction supporting the governor thanked the party leader for siding with them, while those from Musila's wing accused Malombe of using Musyoka's influence to gain competitive advantage.

On his part, the Senator expressed his displeasure with the apparent support directed to Malombe by the party leader.

During a recent tour of the County, Musyoka urged Senator Musila to desist from destabilising Malombe's government by constant fights, a statement which was interpreted as an endorsement towards the governor.

Kalonzo has, however, denied that he had endorsed any leader maintaining that both gubernatorial aspirants were members of his party hence he would remain non-partisan.
