Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has announced the immediate payment of teachers, security officers and drivers who were involved in supervising and administration of this year's Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams.
Following the directive, the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) begun paying all those involved on Wednesday unlike in previous years where they had to wait until the results were released.
Making the announcement, KNEC Acting Chief executive officer Mercy Karogo asked any professional who participated in supervision of exams to avail their details for payment.
“Most of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) sub county directors have not submitted the data on the personnel who worked,” Ms Karogo stated.
Karogo and other teachers thanked Dr. Matiang'i for his directive to ensure the teachers were paid on time unlike previous years where they had to wait for a long time.
“Teachers are grateful to Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i. For the first time, we have been paid by KNEC on time,” said a teacher
Prior to the exams, the Education CS directed KNEC to pay supervisors on time for the services they would render.
