Lawyer Reveals New Details in Kidero’s Sh200 Million Scandal

City Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has made new revelations in the alleged Sh200 Million bribery scandal involving Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and Supreme Court Judge Justice Phillip Tunoi.

Senior Counsel Nasir claimed that Sh300 Million was the bribe money awarded to Judges to rule in favour of Kidero, in the petition challenging his election filed by his then rival Ferdinand Waititu.

According to the lawyer, Sh200 Million was paid to 4 judges who are not mentioned in the affidavit presented by whistle blower Geoffrey Kiplagat.

In addition to the said amount, Nasir stated that there were two other Judges that were separately paid by Kidero.

The Senior Counsel called for investigations against Justice Njoki Ndung'u and Justice Kalpana Rawal, stating that Kiplagat's affidavit mentions Justice Tunoi and 'two other ladies'.

The bribery claims emerged following a report by NTV that indicated Kidero allegedly granted Justice Tunoi, Sh200 Million to influence the out come of the case.

Last week Chief Justice Willy Mutunga weighed in on the matter saying he had received an affidavit on the corruption allegations against Judge Tunoi. A six-member Judicial Service Commission committee was then set up to investigate the claims against Justice Tunoi, which threaten to taint the integrity of the Supreme Court.

However, both Governor Kidero and Judge Tunoi have since dismissed the allegations, citing they have never met personally.

Judge Tunoi claimed that succession wrangles in the Judiciary were a major cause of the bribery allegations against him.

The 72-year-old alleged that there were individuals plotting his exit from the Supreme court, so they could ascend to become judges in the highest court on the land.

Kidero dismissed the allegations citing that political cartels were out to get. He also indicated that he has never met the judge.

"The Sh200 million bribery claim against Justice Philip Tunoi is a political scheme against me by cartels strategizing for the 2017 elections" Kidero told the Nation.
