Leakey Keiva, Nairobi Businessman Selling Helicopters on OLX

The growth of the internet in Kenya has created numerous opportunities for entrepreneurial Kenyans.

One such Kenyan is Leakey Keiva, a 29-year-old businessman who has found an innovative way of making money through the sale of helicopters on OLX, a global online marketplace.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Keiva revealed that most Kenyans who wish to purchase helicopters have a hard time getting the right deal as a result of overpricing by brokers in the industry.

To solve this challenge, Keiva started AigleCom, a company that sells helicopters on behalf of a UK-based company, HeliAir.

“If you buy a helicopter in the Kenyan market, the broker will ask for Sh300 Million, but we will sell you the same chopper for Sh96 Million,” Keiva told this writer.

The businessman has picked a unique way of marketing his expensive commodities by placing the advertisement on OLX.

The ad, titled Helicopter AS355 on Sale for your campaigns, appears to be targeted at politicians who are rushing to purchase small planes that will ease their movement during this campaign season.

He revealed that this strategy is to get more people aware of his product so that they can do customer referrals.

Keiva added that the strategy has been working as he had received two serious clients who got to know his product through referrals from people who had seen his ad.

The flipside, however, is that he has had to deal with a fair share of callers who make enquiries for the sake of curiosity.
