A section of the Maasai community on Friday blocked the busy Narok- Mai Mahiu demonstrating over land alleged to be owned by the Kenyatta family.
The protest was sparked by an advertisement in the newspaper in which Kedong Ranch limited said it was the rightful owner of the land.
Area MCA Kipas Lengues, who was among the protestors pointed out that the case of the ownership of the land was still in the court, hence questioned the claim by Kedong Ranch Limited that the land belonged to the company.
"We shall not seat back and watch as our ancestral land is grabbed by unscrupulous traders and we ask the President to intervene on this," he said.
An elder, Samuel Salita, urged the first family to come clean on the matter following allegations that the family owns part of it. "We shall make sure that all ongoing projects on this land which we got from our ancestral fathers does not continue until we get justice," he declared
The demonstrating Maasais brought traffic to a stand still and vowed that they would go as far as blocking Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) from passing through the land. They also threatened to stop the planned construction of an industrial park and the drilling of geothermal wells on the land.
