Makau Mutua Warns Uhuru on How Ruto Will Cost Him the Presidency

Renowned Law Professor Makau Mutua has advised President Uhuru Kenyatta to 'dump' his deputy William Ruto ahead of the much-awaited General Election.

Prof. Makau opined that the DP was a liability to Kenyatta in his bid to get back to State House.

"If Uhuru Kenyatta believes William Ruto is TOXIC POLITICAL BAGGAGE - which he does - why doesn't he DUMP him? Ruto will COST him RE-ELECTION," Prof. Makau said.

In an earlier article, the lawyer had intimated that Mr Kenyatta was likely to abandon Ruto in the 2017 poll as he (Ruto) had lost his grip of the Kalenjin voting bloc.

Mutua mentioned that the only reason Kenyatta teamed up with Ruto in the last Election was only because of interests.

"Mr Kenyatta yoked himself to Mr Ruto, the junior partner, to corral the last election. Never mind whether it was by hook or crook. But what use is Mr Ruto to Mr Kenyatta if he’s causing the Jubilee boat to take on water? That’s why I think Mr Kenyatta will throw his chief assistant overboard. He doesn’t need a spotter with poor eyesight.

"Second, Mr Ruto was only useful to Mr Kenyatta as the Kalenjin kingpin. But alas, Mr Ruto’s reign atop the Kalenjin Nation has become wobbly. KANU has roared back from the dead to eat his lunch," Mutua said.

In 2016, Meru Governor Peter Munya reportedly cautioned Kenyatta of a possible failure in 2017 if he continued campaigning in the Mount Kenya region with his DP.

“The deputy president is always following the president in his meetings in the region denying him freedom to talk to the people. He is spoiling the President’s votes and Kikuyu elders have made the complaints," said Munya.
