Man Accused of Poisoning Cows to Death Freed

A 60-year-old farmer accussed of poisoning and killing his neighbour's animals has been set free.

The man identified as Francis kariuki was released by a Makadara court for lack of evidence.

Makadara Principle Magistrate Eunice Nyutu noted that the prosecution failed to prove that Kariuki executed the crime.

Kariuki was accused of killing Oldapash Oloibon's three cows worth Sh900,000 on January 232009 in Embakasi, Nairobi.

Oloibon said that he had taken his cows to graze near Kariuki's farm and 10 of them later collapsed, with three passing away.

It was unclear whether or not the animals ingested the poison from Kariuki's land, or in a different location.
