A middle aged man was on Wednesday morning burnt to death after displaying a weird behaviour at a funeral in Mtwapa, Kilifi, causing distress to those around him.
The man, suspected to be suffering from rabies, is reported to have attacked mourners at a ceremony in the home of one Erick Mechi by biting them uncontrollably.
"When he came to my home everything was fine until he started biting people. We tried to calm him down but he became wilder and continued attacking people. He was beaten and ran away," Mechi said.
The strange man is said to have moved to attack a lady identified as Gladys Shoka at her house.
According to Mechi, they heard Ms Shoka shouting for help and upon responding to the distress call, they found the same man they had chased away.
It was then that the irate crowd descended upon the man brutally beating him before burning him beyond recognition.
In a report by the Star, Kilifi police boss Joshua ole Leina said: "When he was chased from the funeral he went to Shoka’s house at around 00.30am and bit her. She raised the alarm and people who were trailing him responded and killed him before burning the body".
The man's remains were taken to Coast General Hospital mortuary.
