Man who Recorded Waititu 'Inciting' Residents Goes Missing

The man who recorded Kabete Member of Parliament Ferdinand Waititu allegedly inciting residents of Kayole in Nairobi has gone missing.

The individual, who was not named due to security reasons, was a key witness in a case where Waititu is accused of inciting residents leading to the death of two people in 2012.

According to deputy Director of Public Prosecution Lilian Obuo, the man was under state sponsored protection and he has disappeared without a trace.

“This witness was released on December 20, 2014 without notice, the investigating officer has since sworn an affidavit detailing the efforts he is making in tracing the witness at his last residence,” Ms Obuo said.

The revelation came to light on Monday during the hearing of the case, where the man was supposed to take the stand while the recording was to be played in court.

Presiding Magistrate Joyce Gandani said that the clip could not be played without the author being present in court.

The prosecution declined to give more information about the witness until his whereabouts are traced.

Waititu is facing charges of inciting members of the public against one community in Kayole while he was the MP for Embakasi constituency.

The accused  is being represented by city lawyer Cliff Ombeta in the matter that was adjourned until June 14.
