Mandera Killings Could Land Uhuru Gov't at ICC

Lawmakers from Mandera County have threatened to take the Government to the International Criminal Court (ICC) over killings in the Northern-Kenya region.

On Monday, a fresh mass grave with more than 10 bodies was discovered, sparking outrage among Kenyans with leaders from the region coming out to condemn the killings.

The Mandera legislators threatened to petition the United Nations and the International Criminal Court, if the president failed to act on the extrajudicial killings reported in the area.

Led by Senator Billow Kerow, the leaders put the blame on military officers operating in the area and the Kenya Wildlife officers.

“I am aware of a top wildlife official who is perpetuating the vice. His days are numbered,” said Mr Kerrow.

Kenyans have reacted to the killings, with a section accusing the government of marginalizing the North Eastern region.

Among the fresh bodies retrieved from the grave at Lethe area, was that of a 48-year-old woman, which was naked with some of her teeth removed.

The woman, who is the only one identified, is claimed to have gone missing last Thursday, only for her body to be found in the gruesome condition alongside other bodies which also had broken bones and missing teeth, an indication of torture.
