Martha Karua Feted as Water Ambassador

Deputy President William Ruto on Thursday evening presented the Water Ambassador award to Narc-Kenya Party leader Martha Karua after she was honoured by the Ministry of Water and Irrigation.

Speaking during the first Kenya Water Week event held at the KICC, Ms Karua thanked the Ministry, led by Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, for recognising her efforts in spearheading reforms in the water sector when she served as minister.

"Happy to be honoured by the Ministry of Water and Irrigation as a Water Ambassador, for leading water sector reforms while serving as Water minister," she wrote on Twitter

The Narc-Kenya Party leader was also appointed as the Water Ambassador by the Ministry.

The former Gichugu MP served as the Minister for Water Resources Management & Development between 2002-2005 where she implemented the Water Act in 2002.

The Act has since accelerated the pace of water reforms and service provision in Kenya.

However, a section of the public raised speculations over why she was awarded after announcing that she would support Kenyatta in 2017 Elections.

The Water CS, however, refuted the claims terming Ms Karua as the  "Mother of Water Sector Reforms' because of implementing the Bill.
