Chaos erupted on Monday morning after a section of Mbeere South residents demonstrated against President Uhuru Kenyatta's failure to visit their region.
The demonstrators expressed their anger after reports emerged that Kenyatta was to visit parts of Embu County on Wednesday but would not set foot in Mbeere-South.
The locals went up in arms protesting against a local politician who they claimed had influenced the Head of State's decision to skip their region during the tour.
The residents, led by one of the parliamentary aspirants Kamau Nyutu, warned that they might be forced to join the Opposition if President Kenyatta would not visit the sub-county.
According to the group, the move by Kenyatta to skip the area would mean it would lag behind in terms of development.
“We have suffered for long. We want the Head of State to come to the area so that he can address the issue of the controversial Mwea settlement scheme,” they stated.
Police officers, however, intervened and dismissed the protesters who were carrying placards castigating the said politician.
Led by Makutano OCS Francis Bundi, the officers maintained the demonstration was illegal since they had not been informed so that they could provide security.
