Migori County Governor Okoth Obado Gives Workers Sh5 Million Pay Off

Migori County Governor Okoth Obado on Wednesday authorised a Sh5 Million payoff to county workers to ensure that they call off a strike planned for Thursday.

The Sh5 Million is part of a sum total of Sh134 Million demanded by the workers as unpaid salaries and deductions.

County Government Workers Union Executive Secretary Baraza Nguka confirmed that Obado's administration had so far paid Sh19 Million and now remains with Sh58 Million to add up to Sh67 Million which should be paid in the first phase as per the agreement made between the two parties.

"So far, the County Government has shown commitment to honour our agreement. We expect the next payment should be made as agreed," Nguka explained.

He added that discussions with the County Secretary Christopher Rosana and other County government officials had yielded a promise that subsequent payments would be made on time.

The County Secretary confirmed that there was an agreement with the County Government Workers Union and assured the workers of timely payments for the remaining phases.
