Miguna Miguna Hits Out at SK Macharia Over 2007 Election Claims

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s senior advisor Miguna Miguna has accused Royal Media Services owner SK Macharia of being hypocritical in his statement on the winner of the 2007 presidential elections.

Through his Twitter account, Miguna revealed that Macharia had privately informed Odinga that results collected by the media showed that Kibaki had lost the presidency to the ODM leader.

Miguna further revealed that he and Odinga had persuaded Macharia to make his observations public but the media mogul reportedly declined and continued to publicly support Kibaki’s presidency.

@DaudiMuya1>Wrong. In Dec 2007, SK Macharia SECRETLY told @RailaOdinga what he is saying now. But he PUBLICLY maintained that "Kibaki won!"

Similar efforts to get the businessman to provide his testimony to the Kriegler Commission that was probing the 2007 elections failed to bear fruit.

@DaudiMuya1>Don't EXCUSE SK's hypocrisy. When I asked him to appear b4 Kriegler in 2008, he refused and PUBLICLY stated that Kibaki won.

Miguna, who has since parted ways with Odinga, stated that Macharia may have been motivated by an ulterior motive in his belated announcement made before the Senate committee.

“SK's statement isn't useful since it's unenforceable! He is looking for a contract to supply satellite phones!!” he tweeted.

Macharia represented the Media Owners Association in giving the body's views on the controversial election laws recently passed by Parliament.

While appearing before the committee, Macharia stated, "Raila Odinga won the 2007 election, the loser of that election MWAI KIBAKI was declared winner."

He added: "The one who was declared the winner in 2007 was not the winner. We tracked all the results through satellite phones. As per my records, Raila won the elections."
