Miguna Miguna Responds to Esther Passaris Law Suit

Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Miguna Miguna has raised interesting points in a defamation case in which he has been sued by his political competitor Esther Passaris.

Miguna on Wednesday seemingly turned the case against Passaris' lawyer, Gitobu Imanyara, who he accused of defaming him, warning that he was ready to face him (Imanyara) in court.

In a series of Twitter messages, the aspirant claimed that Imanyara had defamed him in previous statements giving evidence of media reports to substantiate the allegations.

Miguna stated that the lawyer had at one time called him a fugitive who ought to have been tried at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

“July 18, 2012: Gitobu Imanyara defamed and called me "fugitive from justice" who should be tried at the ICC…Come face me head-on, Mr. Imanyara. WARNING: I'm ready for you!” read one of the tweets.

At the same time, the former advisor to CORD leader Raila Odinga dismissed reports that he had been barred from making defamatory statements against Passaris.

According to Miguna, he had neither defamed Ms Passaris nor been served with any court documents restricting him from uttering any words to the businesswoman.

“ I'm in Toronto Canada; not in Kenya. I've been here since November 25, 2016. I have never made a defamatory statement about Passaris. All my statements about her are TRUE and cannot therefore be deemed defamatory,” he declared.

The former advisor and eloquent lawyer maintained that Passaris was not his competitor adding that she did not have any degree.

“Esther Passaris holds no degree from a recognized university and therefore she does not qualify to vie for the office of governor in the Nairobi City County. Accordingly, she is not my opponent," He declared.

The two were two weeks ago embroiled in a personal verbal exchange on live television, in an interview that was highly criticised by majority of Kenyans.

During the show, Passaris accused Miguna of defaming her on several occasions and produced court documents indicating that she had already moved to court over the matter.
