Military Chiefs Summoned by Parliament After Al Shabaab Attack on KDF Camp in Kulbiyow

Senior KDF officials have been summoned to appear before the National Assembly’s Defence and Foreign Relations Committee to explain the circumstances surrounding the Al Shabaab attack on Kenyan soldiers in Kulbiyow, Somalia.

The committee’s Vice Chairman Bare Shill stated that members were dismayed by last week’s morning attack and wanted the KDF bosses to shed more light on its mission in Somalia.

“We are meeting tomorrow (Friday) morning to discuss the issue, which is of national importance,” he said.

The Kenyan military reported that it had lost nine soldiers in the dawn attack on their camp located near the Somalia-Kenya border.

Sections of the local media have reported that the number could be as high as 68.

MPs sitting in the defence committee have vowed to get to the truth on the number of soldiers who were killed in last week’s attack as well as the infamous El Adde attack that took place last year.

“The delayed El Adde report is among issues we are going to discuss, and the committee  –  not me or the chairman — will make the decision,” Shill confirmed.

The Military Chiefs have for the past year insisted that the report on the unfortunate incident has not been completed.

“We summoned the military officials after the El Adde attack and the public need that report. It will be a waste of public funds if we go ahead to probe this attack before clearing with El Adde. We should stop making reports that will never be released,” Saboti MP David Wafula stated.
