Mombasa Women Group Orders Millie Odhiambo to Apologise for Abusing Uhuru

Mbita Member of Parliament (MP) Millie Odhiambo has been ordered to apologise within the next 24 hours or face countrywide protests.

The demand was issued by Mombasa women leaders aligned to the Jubilee government who termed her statements against President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday as disrespectful.

Led by County Organising Secretary Amina Abdalla, the women who held protests around the town criticised the MP for what they termed as lack of respect for the President.

“The Head of State is a symbol of the national unity. By abusing and belittling him, it is by extension abusing all Kenyans who elected him,” she stated.

The leaders said that the lawmaker had brought shame to the women in the country adding that her remarks were a bad example to children.

The women have now called for an immediate apology from the lawmaker failure to which they would stage countrywide demonstrations.

“President Uhuru is a family man who needs to be respected by everybody. We are telling Ms Odhiambo to respect him and others if she expects to be respected,” asserted another leader, Zenah Swalleh.

Similar protests were staged on the streets of Nairobi by a group of women who declared that they would not allow anyone to hurl abuses at the Head of the State.

The same call was made on Wednesday evening by members of the Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organisation.

On Tuesday, Ms Odhiambo went on a rant outside the National Assembly insulting President Kenyatta's personal character.

This sparked a heated debate especially on social media with Kenyatta later on sarcastically stating that the National Assembly was a house of democracy where people had the freedom to insult him.

Kenyatta added that: "I will neither stop nor be discouraged by the noise and insults peddled by a few individuals because we know that every market has its own mad man.”
