MP Promises to Pay Pregnant Women

Bumula Member of Parliament, Boniface Otsiula, has promised to offer monetary rewards to pregnant women in his constituency. The lawmaker announced the offer as an incentive to stop using family planning methods and instead give birth to many children.

Speaking at Ng'oli Secondary School over the weekend, Mr Otsiula said the reason why a President never comes from the Western region was because they did not have enough voters to propel someone to the highest seat.

"Our brothers in Central and Rift Valley regions lead in population because majority of them do not use the family planning methods, if we want to lead this nation in future let's avoid using the family planning methods so that we have enough voters that will propel us to statehouse," he claimed.

The MP said low population in the constituency had already cost them a lot and it was time to strategise on how to gain voters for future elections. According to the legislator, the region took long to be declared a constituency because it had only 85,000 people which was less than the required 200,000.

"Having enough numbers ensures that we enjoy the government resources allocation compared to other counties and therefore we should strive to have a bigger population that can give us the bargaining power in the national government," he said.

In the mean time Mr Otsiula urged members of the public to come out in large numbers to emulate Rift Valley and Central regions, for the voter registration exercises that were ongoing.
