The Jubilee camp received support from an unlikely faction, after eight CORD MPs joined Deputy President William Ruto in hitting out at the Opposition for frequent criticism on the Government.
The MPs from the Coastal region pledged their loyalty to the ruling coalition, asking the Opposition to offer alternative solutions rather than engage in political name calling.
Led by Kwale Women Representative Zainab Chidzuga, the legislators said that they were ready to be enjoined in the government adding that they were tired of being in the Opposition.
“Hatujazaliwa kama Wapwani, kila siku tuwe tuko kwenye opposition (We have not been brought up as Coastal people to always be in the Opposition),” they said.
Kilifi South MP Mustafa Iddi, further criticised remarks by former Nairobi Mayor George Aladwa, hinting that CORD leader Raila Odinga had no fire power left.
“Msikasirike bana manake mimi ninavyojua, yule jamaa hana risasi hata moja iliyobakia. (Do not be afraid because according to me that guy (Raila Odinga) does not have any more bullets),” he said.
Aisha Jumwa, Kilifi Women Representative, also joined the clarion call asking the Coastal region people to join the government for the sake of unity and development.
This comes as the political tension in the country continues to intensify, with leaders across the political divide being accused for utterances that could spark ethnic violence as the 2017 general election draws closer.
