MP's Former Aide Attacked for Talking To Media

A man was allegedly attacked by a gang of thugs after he revealed to the media how he had been mistreated by a Nairobi Member of Parliament (MP).

Abel Ondieki, who claimed to be a former Personal Assistant (PA) to Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati , said his life was in danger owing to the attack, days after making the revelation.

According to Ondieki, the gang accosted him at his home in Kawangware where they robbed him of goods worth more than Sh200,000. He added that the attackers further warned of more consequences the next time they would pay him a visit.

Mr Ondieki claimed that his woes began when he shared his story revealing how the Dagoretti North MP had slashed his salary to less than half the amount he ought to receive.

He went further to complain that he was kicked out of his house after failing to pay his rent due to the little amount he was earning.

In a report by the Standard, Ondieki said that he was taken in as the MP's PA after the 2013 elections earning a salary of Sh50,000 and the amount was later doubled after he took on an extra role.

“He submitted my name to Parliamentary Service Commission and I was paid Sh50,000. But after sometime, I took another role as an administrator and my salary was doubled,” he claimed.

However, Ondieki said that the situation changed following a strained relationship between him and the MP.

“The MP started paying me Sh30,000 from May to September. That is when I decided to share my hard life as his servant with the media after I was thrown out of the house,” he added.

In a different turn of events, Mr Arati confirmed knowing Ondieki but distanced himself from the allegations.

"Ondieki is playing petty politics and he belongs in jail. It is only the PSC that has a right to one’s salary," he explained.
