Mt Kenya Residents Complain Over Incomplete Projects

President Uhuru Kenyatta is said to have been confronted by seemingly angry residents of various Mt Kenya Counties during a tour of the region.

This was sparked by what they termed unfulfilled promises following delays in completion of many projects initiated by the Head of State.

The discord started on the first day of his tour when a crowd he was addressing in Murang'a County expressed concern over a 47km Mathioya-Mioro Road, whose contractor was reportedly paid Sh2.4 Billion but has only tarmacked three kilometres in four years.

Days later when visiting Karatina town in Nyeri, locals openly disrupted his speech chanting: “Soko, soko, soko. Tunataka kuskia mambo ya soko pia (Market, market, market. We want you to also address the market issue).”

Kenyatta assured that he would follow up on the matter to ensure that the market is completed in due time to allow them efficiently conduct their business.

Later when touring Tharaka Nithi, residents shouted as they expressed their demands regarding delays in construction of Ciakariga-Marimanti-Gatunga-Ura Park, as well as water scarcity in the region.

The Head of State was forced to explain his government's development agenda of the region promising to return to the county to launch projects as reported by the Nation.

And in Kirinyaga, things were not different after residents shouted for Kenyatta to address the issue of a Sh20 Billion dam whose construction had stalled, greatly hampering farming in the County.

The President, however, blamed area leaders for frequent disagreements which had affected completion of the project.

Kenyatta was on a week-long tour of the region on voter mobilisation campaign where he urged residents to register as voters in large numbers, to enable them to participate in the August 8 Election.
