Muhoroni MP Onyango K'Oyoo Warns Shambolic ODM Nominations Might Cause Voter Apathy

An Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) MP has revealed one mistake that might cost party leader Raila Odinga the Presidency.

Muhoroni MP James K'Oyoo cautioned that Odinga's support might be greatly affected if ODM does not hold free and fair nominations.

According to the MP, shambolic primaries would cause voter backlash which would greatly dent Odinga's support.

"We ask ODM officials to purely focus on delivering free, fair and transparent primaries. This will help us consolidate Raila's votes,” he stated.

K'Oyoo warned the county election board against taking sides during the campaigns and the nominations which are set for April 13.

“Any ODM party member or official who is creating voter apathy or causing chaos is simply denying Raila votes. We must deal with our personal interest and focus on major agenda of winning the presidency,” he added.

The MP claimed that a similar scenario had played out in 2013 where a number of ODM supporters reportedly declined to vote after their preferred candidates were denied the party ticket.

He noted that this cost ODM some positions after disgruntled aspirants decamped to other parties and won the seats.
