Murang'a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria Exposes Group Linked to Mungiki

Murang'a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria has exposed a group dubbed ‘Njaa Nene’ that is planning to cause violence ahead of the August 8 Election.

Addressing journalists on Thursday in his office, Mr Wa Iria claimed that the group was recruiting youth at night and operating in a similar way to Mungiki.

“They are recruiting youth at night. Mungiki was called Njaama. The new group has come with a name almost similar to that, 'Njaa Nene', shortening 'Njaama' to 'Njaa' so as to dupe the police and people, the full name is 'Njaama Nene',” the Jubilee Governor stated.

The Murang'a Governor divulged that the group was operating with the blessing of a certain politician from the region.

Mr Wa Iria called on the National Government to investigate the group before it caused any harm to the locals.

However, Murang’a County Commissioner John Elungata stated that they had received information on the group but they were not aware it was conducting illegal activities.

“We know of the existence of the said group after we received reports from local leaders. We assure people that action will be taken immediately they are linked with criminal activities. We cannot for now label them as an illegal group,” Mr Elungata said.
