Mututho and Son Facing Arrest

National Campaign Against Drug Abuse (NACADA) boss John Mututho and his son Daniel Njenga are facing arrest after the High Court issued a warrant against them.

The Court ordered for their arrest after they allegedly refused to pay an outstanding loan balance of Sh9.4 Million.

According to court papers, Mututho and his son took the loan from African Banking Corporation (ABC) through their company Countryside Suppliers Limited, and later tried to repay part of the debt by issuing three cheques worth Sh750,000 which bounced, the Business Daily reports.

ABC then sued Countryside Suppliers Limited and Mr Mututho and Mr Njenga were ordered to settle the loan in 2011. In November, Mututho reportedly failed to show up at the High Court after he was summoned to explain why he should not be committed to civil jail for failing to repay the debt.

This is not the first case of its kind that the NACADA boss has ever faced, as in December 2001, Mututho was accused of attempting to defraud the Kenyatta National Hospital of Sh41 Million by pretending to collect money on behalf of Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

He was, however, cleared of the charges in 2014 after Judge Elena Nderitu said that the prosecution did not provide sufficient justification to prove that Mututho falsely pretended to collect the money for KRA.
