Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero Attacked by Angry Youth in Raila's Presence at Nyayo Stadium

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero was on Tuesday confronted by angry youth at Nyayo Stadium Gymnasium where he had accompanied Opposition leader Raila Odinga to meet aspirants eyeing different seats in the capital under the Orange party.

Trouble began when Mr Odinga took to the podium to address the aspirants after one of the young men shouted that Kidero was working with Jubilee, compelling the security team to whisk him out.

Another aspirant, Mr Paul Ogolla, who is seeking the Harambee Ward seat, told the Nairobi Governor that he had abandoned the electorates since he ascended to power in 2013.

“I can say that Dr Kidero came to my garage in Ngara when he was new in Nairobi and I took him around asking for votes but after he was elected, he stopped interacting with us,” Mr Ogolla affirmed.

More complaints continued to trickle in with another aspirant, Ms Emma Isalambo, claiming that it had become very difficult to access Kidero since he is always surrounded by heavily-built security men who turned away anyone who wanted a word with him.

It took the intervention of the former Prime Minister to restore order in the meeting after he pleaded with all Orange supporters to remain united and register in large numbers.

When the Governor was given a chance to speak, he promised that everything would be different and that he would become more accessible to people.

“I have heard your complaints and I am ready to welcome anybody who wants my attention. My office is open to all,” Dr Kidero stated.

The Governor has for the last two days been accompanying Mr Odinga around the city to mobilise residents to register in large numbers.
