5 Police Officers 'Kidnap' Chinese Man for Sh1 Million

Five police officers have been arrested in Nairobi after they allegedly kidnapped a Chinese national working on the Standard Gauge Railway project.

It is reported that the officers demanded a Sh1 Million ransom from the victim's family after abducting him at Makongeni area in Nairobi. The suspects pretentiously accused the foreigner of possessing an invalid work permit.

Before the arrest, the victim's family reported the incident at Thika Police Station where a team was dispatched to trail the officers stationed at Railways and Makongeni police stations.

Police traced the suspects from Jogoo Road to the city centre then to Muthaiga Police Station where they were eventually apprehended.

It is said that after learning they were being followed, they decided to book the victim at Muthaiga station for 'being in Kenya illegally'.

The suspects were, however, busted as soon as they finished booking the victim.

Confirming the incident, Kiambu County Police Commander James Mugera said that the five were later taken to Thika police station and are set to appear in court on Monday.

A taxi driver who navigated the officers was also apprehended.
