Nairobi University Suspends Babu Owino's Rival

The University of Nairobi has suspended 62 students who are alleged to have participated in riots during the just concluded students' elections.

Key among those suspended is students' leader Babu Owino's fiercest rival Mike Jacobs who was previously involved in a physical altercation, with the eventual winner, Babu, prior to the election.

According to a statement published on the university's website, the administration had initiated disciplinary proceedings against the suspended students for causing unrest and destruction of public property.

The students were directed to collect their suspension letters from the Registrar, Student Affairs, by Friday 15th April 2016.

The disciplinary action comes after the indefinite closure of the university following two days of student protest against the re-election of Babu Owino as SONU Chairperson for the fourth time.

During the unrest students set ablaze SONU office located at the Main Campus and Mamlaka Hostels. The rioting students claimed that Babu rigged the election while the SONU Chairman insited on a landslide victory.
