A woman in Nairobi has been charged with killing her 9-month old son and cremating the body using torn clothes at Uhuru Park.
Ms Margaret Nduta is said to have committed the offence in June 2016 since she had no money for funeral expenses.
Police allege that Nduta took away the life of her son, Said Hassan Juma Karanja, due to prolonged sickness.
A prosecutor told the court that police found her next to the burning body of her son at Uhuru Park and she did not resist arrest.
“She sat watching the body of her son burn,” the investigating officer revealed in a statement to the court.
Magistrate Francis Andayi directed that she be taken for mental examination and said the case would be allocated a trial date if the medical report would indicate that the accused is fit to stand trial.
