Nyandarua Senator John Methu has reacted to the recent heckling of Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung’wah during President William Ruto's tour in the county on Thursday, April 3.
In his official X account, the senator, who is a close ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and a strong critic of the current administration, stated that the residents of Nyandarua do not tolerate 'immature' politics.
According to Methu, no amount of money can be used to persuade the people of Nyandarua to support leaders during the presidential tour in central Kenya.
"Kimani Ichung’wah, I’m so sorry, but Nyandarua doesn't like immaturity. Nyandarua is the home of true defenders," he said.
"The two thousand that we were given was only to listen, the rest of the leaders were to pay separately," he added.
The Majority Leader received a rough reception in Ol Kalou town, where he had accompanied President Ruto to launch the last-mile connectivity in Nyandarua.
Immediately after Ichung’wah was handed the microphone, angry Nyandarua residents protested the lawmaker's address with jeers and whistles.
However, despite the heckling, which at some point briefly halted the MP's speech, Ichung’wah tried to calm the crowd with greetings, which bore no fruit.
Ichung’wah, seemingly overwhelmed by the crowd, gave in and passed the microphone back.
Since President William Ruto's announcement to visit the Mount Kenya region after almost six months, Methu has been among leaders allied to Gachagua who are at the forefront of opposing the tour. According to Methu, the president will bring more false promises to the residents of the region.
Speaking during a public event earlier this week in Naivasha, the senator, who has been recurrently branding Ruto as a 'liar', claimed that the projects that the president will launch in the region are from the past.
"Someone cannot lie to you for one hour; he should say what he is saying for one hour and go, because lies can spoil our ears. I hear that he will go to my home in Nyandarua, and I know he is going to launch projects that were from the past," he said.
Ichung’wah was not the only one who had to endure a hostile crowd during the tour, as the county's Woman Representative, Gitau Faith Wairimu, was also heckled during her address.
