Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has sounded a warning to President William Ruto ahead of the his planned tour to Central Kenya.

In a seemingly tactical political move, Gachagua was in Wangige in Kiambu county on Monday, March 31 for a brief engagement with members of the public.

Expectedly, the former DP took a swipe at his former boss, accusing him of launching projects that did not belong to the Kenya Kwanza government.

According to Gachagua, a majority of the projects which Ruto is set to launch were allegedly pioneered by his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta.

"I want to tell the President. You are coming to Mount Kenya to tell us which projects you are working on," Gachagua said.

"But we must say the truth: the projects that are in Central Kenya are those that were initiated by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, and you have refused to complete them."

Ahead of his tour, President Ruto is set to make an appearance on all vernacular stations in Central Kenya—a move that Gachagua claims is geared towards lying to the public before the President's visit.

Gachagua went on, "Don't lie to the people of Mount Kenya. I hear he is going to make an appearance on the radio tonight. Will you listen to him?"

The former DP's sentiments came just two days after he cautioned Mount Kenya people to be wary of the President's alleged tactics of using money to entice the voting bloc. Gachagua claimed on Saturday that the President would leave no stone unturned in his attempts to woo the vote-rich region.

This will be the first time Ruto is comprehensively touring the Mount Kenya region since August 2024, when Gachagua was still his Deputy. Ruto, whose tour begins on April 1, is expected to launch several projects across different counties, including Laikipia, Nyeri, Meru, Kirinyaga, Nyandarua, Murang'a, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi and Kiambu counties.

The President is set to inspect and commission a number of projects, including roads, markets, electricity connections and affordable housing.

Notably, Ruto is set to inspect the construction of the County Aggregation and Industrial Park (CAIPS) in Kiambu and Laikipia counties.
