Naivas Supermarket Could Leave Kisumu After CORD Protests

Following a wave of destruction on businesses in Kisumu on Monday, Naivas Supermarket is reportedly contemplating to relocate its store from the lakeside city to Kakamega town.

Naivas Kisumu branch was attacked by alleged supporters of the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) during the anti-IEBC protests.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Tuesday, an official at the retail store who sought anonymity could neither deny nor confirm the reports.

“At this moment I cannot confirm the information, neither can I deny it as it has not been made official,” said the source.

The officer did not rule out the relocation possibility and acknowledged that moving the Kisumu branch to Kakamega was a good idea considering the events that transpired on Monday.

Reacting to the reports, Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria 'congratulated' Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya for promoting an investment friendly environment in his county.

During the Monday demonstrations, Naivas and Tumaini supermarkets were pelted with stones by protesters who looted property of unknown value from the stores.
