The National Land Commission (NLC) has announced plans to kickstart the land acquisition process in Kiambu County to pave the way for a major road project.
In a Gazette Notice dated August 8, the commission confirmed that the acquisition of the land, which will be used for the construction of the Ndekere–Kwa Macharia–Cuniniki Road, is in line with Part VIII of the Land Act.
According to the commission, the targeted parcels located in Ndurugu Ndurugu/Gacharage, measure a combined 0.217 hectares and are registered under both private owners and public entities.
"In pursuance of the Land Act, Part VIII, the National Land Commission, on behalf of the County Government of Kiambu, gives notice that the County Government intends to acquire the parcels of land listed below for the Construction of the Ndekere-Kwa Macharia-Cuniniki Road Project-Kiambu County," NLC stated.
NLC has urged the affected landowners to ensure that they visit its offices in Nairobi to inspect the affected land and get more details about the road project.
"Plans for the affected land may be inspected during office hours at the office of the National Land Commission, Ardhi House, 3rd Floor, Room 305, 1st Ngong Avenue, Nairobi, and at the National Land Commission’s County Co-ordinator’s Office in Kiambu County," the commission stated.
The announcement comes a week after the commission revealed that it is, on behalf of the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA), in the process of acquiring parcels of land for various road projects in the county.
In a gazette notice dated August 1, NLC stated that it is in the process of acquiring parcels of land from 12 individuals in the county for the construction of the Gatundu–Karinga–Flyover Road Project.
Furthermore, the commission said that it will also acquire eight more parcels of land in the same county for the construction of the Gatundu-Karinga flyover road project.
Additionally, NLC intends to acquire five parcels of land in the county for the refurbishment of the International School of Kenya-Gathiga road project.
Individuals affected by the process will be required to submit a written claim for compensation to NLC offices, accompanied by other documents such as ID, land ownership documents, and bank account details.
Companies with an ownership interest are also required to submit certificates of incorporation, CR12 forms, KRA PINs, and ID documents for directors.
"Every person interested in the affected land is required to deliver to the National Land Commission on or before the day of the inquiry a written claim to compensation, a copy of their identity card (ID), Personal Identification Number (PIN), land ownership documents, and bank account details," the commission stated.
