NASA Principals Write 8-Page Letter to IEBC Regarding Integrity of 2017 General Election

A leaked letter written by the National Super Alliance (NASA) principals has revealed their worries regarding the 2017 General Election.

The eight-page letter, penned by their lawyer Siaya Senator James Orengo, challenges the IEBC commissioners to respond to questions on the preparedness of the electoral body to manage the August 8 election.

The NASA team pointed out that the polls stand disputed, the timelines breached, the voter register riddled with irregularities and without a credible independent audit.

Orengo had also sought to know how the commissioners will manage to vet the secretariat staff and still continue to meet the strict timelines ahead of August 8.

The Opposition further warned that the IEBC may find itself in a position where the election will be declared illegal even before it is held.

“There is no chance in the world you will be able to comply with ... provisions of the Elections Act, even within the next 60 days. In any event, the timelines have been breached,” NASA stated in their letter dated February 8.

They had also sought to know all parties that will have access to IEBC servers, as well as the security of the warehouses where data will be stored.

“What are the external interfaces connected to IEBC and the identity of the users and purpose thereof?...Do these include NIS, Jubilee Party, the Immigration Department and other third parties?” the letter read in part.

IEBC boss Wafula Chebukati is yet to respond to the issues raised by NASA.
