NASA Team Fails to Agree on Presidential Candidate

Talks to identify the National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential flagbearer have reportedly collapsed after close to a month of negotiations.

A team, which had been mandated with spearheading the talks, is said to have failed to reach a consensus due to some hard-line stances maintained by some leaders.

Sources indicate that the committee has not agreed on anything substantial and might be forced to call off a retreat that was meant to divulge on the progress.

Leaders privy to the talks told the Nation that a Member of Parliament allied to the Wiper Movement was particularly on the spot for constantly disagreeing with resolutions of the committee.

“The situation is getting desperate as we are constantly distracted by one MP from Eastern Province who has apparently adopted a hard-line stance on everything. We are not agreeing on anything,” one of the MPs stated.

The team has also been unable to agree on the issue of joint nominations following strong positions especially by Wiper and Ford Kenya which have insisted on fielding candidates in all positions apart from the presidency.

The situation is said to have further been complicated by former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka's individual campaigns where he has maintained on being the Alliance's candidate.

NASA has now reportedly organised a national coordinating committee meeting on Tuesday to try and unlock the deadlock.

The Alliance which comprises of ODM, Wiper, ANC and Ford Kenya was officially unveiled less than a month ago with the leaders insisting they would come up with an agreeable candidate.
