NASA Threatens to Boycott Election If IEBC Given Powers to Alter Presidential Results

The National Super Alliance (NASA) has threatened to boycott the August 8 General Election if the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is allowed to adjust results of the Presidential elections announced at the constituency level.

The Alliance on Tuesday declared that it won't participate in the polls if the Court of Appeal overturns an earlier ruling stating that the results announced by the returning officers would be final.

Speaking to the press, Siaya Senator James Orengo maintained that the results announced at the constituency level should be final and not subject to any alterations failure to which “there will be no election”.

He further urged the IEBC to withdraw a petition it filed to contest the ruling issued by the High Court in April.

The case is set to be heard on Wednesday.

The IEBC appealed against the judgment issued by a three-judge bench terming it an error which should be reversed by the Court of Appeal.

According to the polls body, the three judges gave powers to returning officers to declare presidential results which is a preserve of the Chairman of the Commission.
