NCIC Warns Public Universities to Stop Incubating Tribalism

Public Universities have been found in violation of the Constitution by not promoting ethnic balance thereby incubating tribalism. The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) revealed this information during a meeting with the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Cohesion and Equal Opportunities in Mombasa.

NCIC expressed concern over dominance of certain tribes in the teaching fraternity.

They want public institutions to be tribe-neutral and urged the institutions to draw its leadership from any parts of the country the candidates are qualified.

In an effort to discourage tribalism, the Commission is working on coming up with measures to outlaw vernacular speaking in public spaces.

The Commission also wants to change how selections of students are done because students are trained to be tribal, arguing that institutions dominated by one tribe deepens ethnicity.

On a national level, the Commission faulted the County Governments for not curbing ethnicity because 90% of County employees are from the dominant community.

They proposed the transfer some of their employees from County Governments to other parts of the country to encourage diversity.

All the measures are in hopes to promote ethnic balance in the country due to the toxic nature of tribalism.

They have urged leaders to preach cohesion.
