New Judge Replaces Rao in Tunoi Case

State House has revealed that a new judge will replace Sharad Rao in the tribunal formed to probe suspended Supreme Court Judge Philip Tunoi.

Retired Judge Jonathan Havelock, has been appointed the chairman of the tribunal after a series of questions were raised concerning Rao's suitability to lead the probe team.

The appointment of Havelock was confirmed on Sunday by Principal Administrative Secretary in the Office of the President Kennedy Kihara, in a television interview.

Rao had come under pressure from a section of lawyers, who claimed that he was too old and that he did not meet the stipulated requirements.

The now Havelock-led tribunal is charged with investigating Justice Tunoi, over allegations by one Geoffrey Kiplagat that the former received a Sh200 Million bribe from Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero to influence an election petition by Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu.

Other persons appointed to the tribunal are: Justice Roselyne Korir, Judith Abrahams Guserwa, James Kaberere Gacoka, Abdirashid Abdullahi Hussein and George Munji Wakukha.
