KeNHA Closes Oletepesi-Magadi Road Over Floods

Kenya National Highway Authority has closed the Oletepesi-Magadi road on Tuesday until further notice.

According to a statement issued by the Authority, the road was closed following flash floods that swept over the road.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority regrets to inform the public of the closure of Oletepesi - Magadi (B19) Road, read the notice in part.

Further, the Authority confirmed that the road posed a danger for motorists and warned Kenyans to use the route in the interest of their safety.

KeNHA confirmed that the authority would monitor water levels in the region and begin restoration works once the floods subsided.

“We will continue to monitor the water levels and begin restoration works when the water subsides,” stated KeNHA.

Additionally, earlier on in the day, the Authority also closed the Embu- Meru Highway following a deep crack that occurred on the road

Embu Governor, Cecily Mbarire, noted that the road was closed and undergoing repairs until further notice.

The cracks emerged along the Ikong’u bridge at Kiagima area in Embu West Sub-county.

Reportedly, several motorists risked loss of lives after the soil in the region started caving in.

Motorists plying the route were advised to divert their routes at Mutunduri through Manyatta, Kianjokoma and back to the highway through Runyejes.
