Suspended Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu has been released on a Sh1 million cash bail.
Appearing before the Principal magistrate Lawrence Mugambi, Ngilu has failed to take plea, requesting separation of charges from her co-accused.
The Suspended CS is accused of obstructing investigations into the Karen land saga by directing Lands ministry officials not to release documents to its investigators or even record any statements regarding the matter The Nation reports.
According to The Star, Ngilu's lawyer Paul Muite has requested that her client be charged independently from the other co-accused since the cases are unrelated.
Magistrate Mugambi has set Friday, June 26 as the day when the court will rule on whether the court will charge Ngilu separately from the other 8 land officials.
The CS will also take plea on the same day.
Ngilu was accompanied by crowds of supporters, including opposition Cord co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka, MPs Dan Maanzo and Cecily Mbarire.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) had recommended that she be charged with the offence of obstruction, which the Director Public Prosecutions (DPP) accepted.
Ngilu is the second CS to be charged, of the five who were suspended in April to facilitate investigations over allegations of corruption.
