Nigerian Terrorising Nairobi Residents Arrested

Police officers in Nairobi have apprehended a Nigerian national believed to be leading a criminal gang that has been terrorising city residents.

The man was trailed by detectives to Kileleshwa where he was busted at an entertainment joint, with police officers recovering a firearm and eight rounds of ammunition from him.

Confirming the incident, Kilimani Police chief Peter Katam said the man was being questioned to reveal members of his gang.

“We believe he is part of the gang behind carjacking of vehicles in this area, mostly targeting foreigners,” he was quoted by Capital FM.

According to Katam, the Nigerian would also be investigated to ascertain whether he was in the country legally as they prepared to arraign him in court.

Police have previously unearthed gangs led by foreigners that have time and again compromised security in the country.

In January, a Sudan national was arrested after masterminding several kidnappings in Nairobi targeting foreign business people.

Haisam Elmkashfi was accused of leading a network that used to get intelligence from the victims' countries before executing well coordinated abductions.

The gang would then hold their victims hostage while demanding for ransom from their relatives.
