Nissan Kills 4 after Askaris Throw Spikes at It

County askaris in Kericho have been blamed on the death of four people and the injury of several others in an accident along the Kisumu-Kericho Road.

The Star reports that the vehicle rolled several times after the askaris threw metal spikes at the moving Nissan.

The driver had allegedly refused to bribe the officers after he was caught picking passengers at an undesignated spot in town.

He instead drove off prompting the askaris to follow the vehicle.

They threw the spikes at the vehicle, causing the driver to lose control after one of the tyres got a puncture.

According to Citizen Tv, one person died on the spot, while three others succumbed to injuries later.

The injured were taken to Kericho District hospital.

Leaders from the area have since called on legal action to be taken against the askaris involved.

Former Roads Minister Franklin Bett asked the area governor Paul Chepkwony to intervene and ensure the askaris are brought to book.

Area senator Charles Keter sent a condolence message to the families of the deceased, calling on police officers to conduct a speedy investigation into the accident.

My condolences to the family and friends of the passenger who lost her life in the accident at the Kericho- Sotik road...
